Matter and Materiality by Rokhshid Ghaziani

Image
The following notes are my personal understanding from Rokhshid's lecture. materials always have played an important role in human life from when they used various materials such as stone and wood to create simple weapons and hunt animals.  But today, we are using all kinds of material for more different purposes in orther to bring more comfort white leads to forget the Planet Earth in many cases. So we have to decside about the materials and our choises to make the least impact on the planet. sustainable materials, could be the best choise for the following reasons: There are several different definitions for sustainable materials, but essentially they are materials that can be reused or recycled without damaging the environment.  Some common examples of sustainable green materials include bamboo, wood, wool, linen, hemp, clay, straw, stone, and sand. There are also a number of innovative materials that are being developed all the time, such as recycled plastic lumber, recycl...

Critical thinking

Image
At the beginning of this session, we were asked about critical thinking and what it is. I think critical thinking is the ability to think clearly and rationally and understand the logical connection between ideas which leads to creativity. moreover, critical thinking is an essential skill in many fields and contexts, including education, business, science, and politics. It allows individuals to make informed decisions and judgments based on evidence and reasoning rather than emotions or personal biases. Here are some key components of critical thinking: Analysis: Breaking down complex information or arguments into smaller parts to understand and evaluate them. Evaluation: Assessing the credibility, accuracy, and relevance of information and arguments to determine their strengths and weaknesses. Synthesis: Combining information and arguments from multiple sources to form a coherent and logical conclusion or solution. Reflection: Examining one's own biases, assumptions, and perspecti...

EPC Workshop

Image
We had an EPC workshop but before they, we were told that find and bring three objects to the workshop. Firstly, we discussed how to join two things with different materials to each other, and then we started! My first object was a hanger which I found in the park under a bench, the second one was a shell from the seaside and the last one was a cap of plastic bottle and its ring. We had to make new things by using them without any background story, so decided to use a wooden base and cut it with a saw. After that, I nailed the bottle cap, its ring and the shell to my wooden base. Then I put my hanger between my base and a wooden stick and fixed them with glue. After I created this thing, it reminded me the story of life, children are passing their childhood with simple challenges but when they grow up, they determine their goals and what they want from their life. As a fact, goals are on different levels as well as their value. Moreover, there are many ways to achieve our goal, some of...

The language of colours

Image
www.getvellum.com We were told to bring two painted sheets for the Colour workshop. According to my taste, I choose black and white, So I painted an A2 sheet black.   At the first of the class, we showed each other our painted sheets and discussed them, after that we were free to select and sort the colours based on our tastes.                                 Then we were divided into three separate groups with nine members and we were given 1/3 of each colours. Then we started to create stories by using them. Firstly, we tried to indicate a person who is attending the class by bright and sharp colours because of the energy which is existing in the learning sessions.  After that, we showed the way between table and the kitchen with  Neutral colours and we used green and blue to show the relaxation around the sofa. Secondly, we tried to show a person who is dancing through the corridor by ...

Me & my OBJECT

Image
This is my object, a measuring tape! In fact, this a measuring object which made me to be more accurate and aware while I took it with myself for a walk in four separate rounds. The first thing that I noticed, was a metal bar which had same material with my object. Then I saw many straight lines. Some of them were parallel with each other,  And the other ones made a kind of interesting mess! Moreover, I saw many scenes which were indicating the opponent in different ways. Then I tried to find a relation between my object and my around environment, by looking through or hanging it,                                        And I introduced it to the wild life. After that, I tried to add the measuring tape to a building and the street which was located near me!   Then, I started to play with the tape and create new shapes which I saw near myself. Here I tried to walk in a way ...

The Stick

Image
The straight wooden stick was an object which was given to me to change my point of view and it was the main reason to make me think about how to live more accurately and assess my daily actions and lifestyle. On the first day, I left it many times in different places, but as time goes by, it became what should be for me. Lights and shadows always remember me of the new part of my daily life and their importance to me.              Based on my experience, people in different positions had different reactions. For example, the library's security thought that the stick was for sports purposes and my flatmates thought That I want to change my room’s decoration by using this stick and making new wooden objects. Many times was asked about its usage and I had to explain to others that it is a simple stick without any special magic or mystery! Moreover, the stick gave me some new perspectives in my daily lifestyle. Specially its shapes! Many times I pointed m...
